Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came with quite a few twists. The first movie to make it through the multiverse was like a 101 lesson to fans about how alternate realities would play a role in the MCU from now on. The film first took a big turn when Wanda Maximoff aka Scarlet Witch was revealed as the real villain of the film. In the film, Wanda wants to use the powers of America Chavez to travel to another reality to reunite with her children. This sends Strange and Chavez on a course across the multiverse to stop Wanda.
And just as we thought, the Multiverse is full of surprises. Not only does the film feature multiple variations of the film’s central characters, but also the famous Illuminati from the comics. The series on Earth-838 included several cameos, one of which is the most surprising. When Strange is handcuffed, he is introduced to the members of the group. One of them is Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic from The Fantastic Four. Fans delight, the character was played by John Krasinski. The actor, who fans have wanted to play the character for for years, also shared the screen with Elizabeth Olsen in a “very pivotal scene”.
However, it turns out that the two never met. In a recent interview with Vanity FairElizabeth Olsen underwent a lie detector test. In the test, she was shown a photo of Krasinski and was asked if? he was the smartest man in the worldto which she replies that she does not know him or has ever met him.
I hate to say it, I hope I don’t sound ridiculous, I don’t know who this man is. I mean, he could be walking down the street, and I wouldn’t know about it. Sorry about this guy. However, I met his wife.
Check out the part where Olsen discussed Krasinski in the interview here.
Turns out, despite sharing the screen, the actress never met any of the actors who played the members of the Illuminati. Elizabeth called it “Movie Magic” and actually confirmed in the lie detector that the series was put together through visual effects. It could be the differences in the actors’ schedules or maybe Marvel really wanted to keep things a secret this time around, to avoid leaks, as happened with Spider-Man: No Way Home†
The Illuminati Series Made Things ‘crazy’ for MCU
The Illuminati members had several surprise appearances. Krasinski’s appearance as Reed Richards may confirm that he will see the character in the upcoming . will play Fantastic four† I personally would have liked Fantastic four to be a thrilling original movie, but Marvel pre-decided to show Richards as Mister Fantastic for a little glimpse and therefore casts shadows on where and how Fantastic four would take these characters and the franchise.
As for other facets of the franchise, the Illuminati series also featured Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier in an alternate version of the character featured in the X-Men Franchise† That may or may not lead to the introduction of mutants into the MCU. Also featured in the scene was Anson Mount as Blackagar Boltagon/Black Bolt, who played his role of in people† With that, the film also gave the canceled TV program a place in the multiverse. The scene also featured Lashana Lynch as Captain Marvel and Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter; the latter reprises her role of What if…?
Marvel Studios marketed the film well on the secret of these appearances, but none of them gave any concrete evidence of their future in the MCU, and neither promised a storyline to continue. Marvel decided to kill them all, including Krasinski’s Richards, leaving fans distraught. The studio kept the secret well-hidden until the premiere and audiences were excited to see these characters on screen, even though they didn’t meet.
Marvel Studios has too many stories to fit in, as Kevin Feige and team now have all of the rights to Fox’s characters, as well as creative control over storylines we’ve seen in Marvel Television productions. Multiverse of madness gave a glimpse of how Feige plans to continue these stories under his banner, and hopefully it won’t be too long before these characters take shape again.
