The Academy Officially Announces Oscars 2023 Date

The 95th Academy Awards will be moved up a few weeks from last year’s schedule and nominations will take place in January 2023.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has made a few announcements regarding the 95th Academy Awards to be held next year. Slightly pushed forward from the release date compared to this year, the 2023 Oscars will take place on March 12, 2023. The 2022 Oscars took place on March 27, 2023.

This would be the third ceremony in a row not to take place during the set February schedule. It was in 2004 that the Oscars started in February. In 2020, the ceremony will film the ceremony to the second Sunday in February; however, the pandemic changed things the following year. The 2021 Oscars ceremony took place on April 25, 2021 and there were several changes to the nominee selection process. With the ceremony gradually shifting over the past two years, it looks like the Academy will shift to its previous February schedule in 2024.

The ceremony will be broadcast on ABC, official partners of the Academy. The Academy has also announced (via The playlist) that voting on the nominations will begin on January 12, 2023 and end on January 17, 2023. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce this on January 24, 2023.

For the past two ceremonies, the Academy has toned down its eligibility requirements and allowed streaming releases to qualify for battle, in case those films were previously scheduled for theatrical release. However, for the 95th Academy Awards, the Academy plans to fall back on previous guidelines as theater operations in the United States are ramping up.

The 2022 Oscars were in the news for all the unwanted reasons, despite having some historic wins, including Best Picture for CODA† However, viewership at the ceremony rose after a record low rating for the 2020 ceremony. For next year’s Oscars, the Academy will appoint a new president and chief executive officer for Dawn Hudson, and David Rubin will oppose the ceremony. fulfill their mandate at the end of this summer.
