A TV series based on the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie true lies is moving forward at CBS, as the network ordered a series based on a pilot that was given the green light early last year. After a long delay, the pilot was originally slated to fall into last year’s potential new shows, but slipped back to this year. With Steve Howey and Ginger Gonzaga in the roles played by Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis respectively in the film, the show will reboot the story and rework the original plot.
In the 1994 film, Arnold Schwarzenegger played a man who appeared to be an ordinary husband, but behind the office worker facade, he is secretly an international spy. Over the course of the film, intrigue and danger spills over into his family life as his wife, in search of some excitement, becomes involved in his latest case. From the synopsis, it seems like the series picks up more or less where the movie left off. There is:
“An unfulfilled suburban housewife (Ginger Gonzaga) is shocked to discover that her dull and inconspicuous husband (Steve Howey) is a computer consultant, an accomplished international spy. She finds herself in a life of danger and adventure when she is recruited to work with him to save the world as they try to rekindle their passionless marriage.”
Character descriptions have given more details about the True Lies series
In addition to the updated synopsis, more detailed descriptions about the two main characters were also revealed. First up is Ginger Gonzaga’s Helen, who is “Harry’s supportive wife, mother of two teenage children and a linguistics professor who becomes annoyed by Harry’s constant business trips away from home. She grows increasingly angry and feels as if she has been robbed of the life she once imagined. Excited when Harry invites her on a trip to Paris, Helen is horrified to see a completely different side of her husband and discover that he is, in fact, a world-class spy.”
In addition, the character information about Harry says that he is “a good-natured, play-it-safe, seemingly risk-averse computer salesman and devoted family man, married with two children. But in reality, Harry is an undercover agent, a top-notch spy working for a secret American intelligence agency.” .”
true lies is a movie that was always set up to have a sequel, and once it looked like it would. But as the years went on, so did the actors, and it seemed that true lies was destined to be a standalone movie that never quite made it as a franchise. While the new series is a reboot rather than a direct sequel, there’s enough connection to the original movie to ensure fans new and old are likely to find something to love about the show.
true lies is one of the new series headed to CBS, along with Fire Country, Eastern New York and So help me Todd, all of which were ordered yesterday. While these new shows are welcome additions to the network, fans of the rebooted Magnum PI and United States of AI were disappointed with the news that both fan favorites were among those canceled.
