“When they received information, our officers arrived and found the body. We sent it in for an autopsy. We have launched an investigation into the matter. The cause of death is not established until the post-mortem report is obtained. Let’s not jump to conclusions beforehand,” said Rahul De, SP of South Dinajpur district.

However, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar said: “We learned yesterday that a tribal woman had been raped and murdered. The incident took place in my constituency. I have decided to postpone all my organizational meetings for the next few days and district to assist the bereaved. This incident shows once again that women are not safe in West Bengal.”

Responding to his claim, Ujjal Basak, president of TMC’s South Dinajpur district, said the BJP should not politicize the government.
incident. “The BJP must not disturb the peace by making such wild accusations. They are welcome to assist the people and provide help. But they must not conspire over the incident and reap the political benefits,” Basak said.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s state president apologized Friday for disclosing the identity of an alleged rape victim on social media,

Majumdar clarified that the team managing his Twitter account had made the mistake, and he made sure the tweet was removed as soon as he found out.

In a tweet, while attacking the state government, the BJP MP added a photo of the body and revealed her identity, stating that she had been raped and murdered.

“Those who manage my Twitter account made the mistake. The identity (of the rape victim) cannot be disclosed. When I found out, I immediately deleted the name. We have corrected the mistake and apologize,” Majumdar told media outlets in the Birbhum district.
